The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work.
 
This includes carrying out a risk assessment, appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training.

First Aid Requirements

Low-hazard

e.g. offices, shops, libraries

 

Fewer than 25

At least one appointed person

 

25–50

At least one first-aider trained in **EFAW

 

More than 50

At least one first-aider trained in *FAW for every 100 employed (or part thereof)

Higher-hazard

e.g. light engineering and assembly work, food processing, warehousing, extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, construction, chemical manufacture

 

Fewer than 5

At least one appointed person

 

5–50

At least one first-aider trained in **EFAW or *FAW depending on the type of injuries that might occur

 

More than 50

At least one first-aider trained in *FAW for every 50 employed (or part thereof)

Course Overview

Over a 3 day period, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations.

 

Including:

  • assessing an incident

  • managing an unresponsive casualty

  • CPR

  • heart attacks

  • choking

  • head and spinal injuries, fractures

  • anaphylaxis

  • + more

Intended Audience

 

The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, specifically designed for those who are appointed to act as a First Aider in their workplace.

 

It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Course Overview

During one day. Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations.

  • managing an unresponsive infant or child

  • CPR

  • choking

  • seizures

  • external bleeding

  • + more

Intended Audience

 

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification has been designed in-line with the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements and is ideal for:

  • Those who have gained a level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with the EYFS requirements.

  • Anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who have an involvement with infants and children and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.

Newly qualified entrants

 

To an early years setting who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30th June 2016, must also have either a full paediatric first aid or an emergency paediatric first aid certificate within three months of starting work.

Course Overview

Learners will maintain the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations.

 

Including:

  • managing an unresponsive casualty

  • CPR

  • choking

  • shock

  • wounds and bleeding

Intended Audience

 

If your 'First Aiders' have been on a course and it is coming up to 12 months their skills may have faded.

 

The HSE recommends an annual refresher to bring the key components of their original training back to life.

 

This half day (4 hour) session will provide the enhancement and maintain their readiness to act when needed.
