HSE First Aid Requirements
First aiders are an integral part of workplace safety. The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to make arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. This includes appointing a suitable amount of first aiders and providing appropriate first aid training. The below are the minimum requirements.
Higher-hazard Environments
e.g. light engineering and assembly work, food processing, warehousing, extensive work with dangerous machinery or sharp instruments, construction, chemical manufacture
Fewer than 50
At least one first-aider trained in one-day Emergency First Aid at Work or three-day First Aid at Work depending on the types of injuries that may occur
More than 50
At least one first-aider trained in three-day First Aid at Work for every 50 employed (or part thereof)
Low-hazard Environments
e.g. offices, shops, libraries
Fewer than 50
At least one first-aider trained in one-day Emergency First Aid at Work
More than 50
At least one first-aider trained in three-day First Aid at Work for every 100 employed (or part thereof)

Three-day First Aid at Work
Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)
Course Overview
Over a 3 day period, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations.
Including:

Intended Audience
The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, specifically designed for those who are appointed to act as a First Aider in their workplace.
It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Two-day First Aid at Work Requalification
Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)
REQUALIFICATION
Course Overview
It is possible to reduce the three-day course to two days when requalifying if Learners produce their current or previous, recently expired, First Aid at Work certificate. The certificate should be in a format as accepted by the HSE. Requalification training should be delivered in no less than 2 days excluding breaks.
Intended Audience
Attending a First Aid at Work requalifying course is great when the First Aider can produce their current or previous, recently expired certificate.
The certificate should be in a format as accepted by the HSE and be in date or expired for no more than one month.

One-day Emergency First Aid at Work
Qualsafe Awards Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)
Course Overview
During one day, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations.

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations.
It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Half-day First Aid at Work Annual Refresher

(Annual Refresher) (RQF)
Course Overview
This half day (4 hour) session will provide the enhancement and maintain their readiness to act when needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations.

Intended Audience
If your 'First Aiders' have been on a course and it is coming up to 12 months their skills may have faded.
The HSE recommends an annual refresher to bring the key components of their original training back to life.
