What is Suicide First Aid?

Teaching the theory and practice of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting, captured in a one-day event (accredited by City and Guilds of London) or a half day lite event.

The Suicide First Aid sessions have some interactive elements that can be emotionally engaging. The sessions are for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide.

Independent evaluations of SFAUSI show that it significantly increases confidence and reduces anxiety in dealing with suicide, and described it as "the gold standard in suicide prevention training".

SFA USI - One Day

SFAUSI is comprised of 4 parts, each 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide- safety as a first aid approach.

SFA Lite - Half Day

SFA Lite is comprised of 2 parts, each 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches the skills needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and to pass the person onto a suicide first aider.

The Suicide First Aid Beliefs

SFA: Suicide First Aid training is underpinned by three core beliefs:

  1. Most people thinking about suicide do not want their lives to end, they want the pain to stop

  2. Most people thinking about suicide let others know, consciously or unconsciously. Therefore...

  3. Suicide has to be one of the most preventable deaths
